Ways to Wellbeing is a project designed for primary and secondary schools that supports students in learning about mental health and wellbeing through engaging with the lives of the elderly community in Dublin 8.
The project’s focus will be on promoting wellbeing in both the young and older population of Dublin 8 through the facilitation of meaningful and rewarding conversations between local young and elderly people.
Students are asked to create engaging projects through a variety of mediums, such as podcasts, written stories, film or photo projects.
The objective of this project with Smart D8 is to foster local connections and encourage students to learn from those in the community with many years of life experience. Through participating in the project, students will seek to learn the following from the older population:
- Tips for living a mentally healthy life
- How to build resilience
- An important lesson the older person learned that made a positive difference to their life.
Students are welcome to interview older family members from the Dublin 8 area; write letters to day centres/nursing homes; or interview older people in the community (in line with COVID-19 public health guidelines). The initiative is suitable for all classes in primary schools and all years in secondary schools.
Ways to Wellbeing will launch on Friday, 1 October and all projects must be submitted to us by 30 November.
Registration is now open, and closes on Friday, 24 September.
Once you register, you’ll receive a confirmation email with further information about the projects steps. To help students get started with their projects, all registered students will receive a Ways to Wellbeing project pack to assist them while planning their projects.
